HIT 113 - Medical Terminology and Disease Processes I
Includes the study of prefixes, suffixes, stem words, and technical terms; puts emphasis on the causes and treatment of selected disease processes. Part I of II.
Lecture 3 hours per week.

HIT 115 - Ambulatory Coding and Classification
Focuses on disease and procedure classification in the ambulatory care environment. Develops basic coding and classification knowledge using ICD-9-CM and CPT. Not Intended for HIT majors.

HIT 121 - Medical Transcription I
Develops skills in the transcription of various medical record reports, use of transcription references and proof reading reports. Evaluates the productivity and organization of transcription departments/services and the quality of transcribed reports and equipment utilized. Prerequisite typeing 40 words per minute. Part I of II.
Lecture 1 hour. Laboratory 6 hours. Total 7 hours per week.

HIT 150 - Health Records Management
Presents documentation format and content of the medical record relevant to the coding function. Introduces application of standard techniques for filing, maintenance, and accquisition of health information. Examines the processes of collecting, computing, analyzing, interpreting, and presenting data related to health care services. Includes legal and regulatory guidelines for the control and use of health information data.
Lecture 3 hours per week.

HIT 163 - Anatomy and Physiology for Medical Transcriptionists
Introduces the structure and function of the system of the human body, as applied in the medical transcription profession. Prerequisite: HLT 143.

HIT 190 - Coordinated Internship
Supervises on-the-job training in selected business, industrial or service firms coordinated by the college.
Credit/practice ratio not to exceed 1:5 hours. May be repeated for credit. Variable hours.

HIT 249 - Supervision and Management Practices
Introduces supervision and management principles with emphasis on the application of these principles in the health information setting.
Lecture 3 hours per week.

HIT 250 - Health Data Classification Systems I: ICD-9-CM
Focuses on diagnosis and procedure classification using ICD-9-CM. This system is currently utilized for collecting health data for the purposes of statistical research and financial reporting. Prerequisite(s): HIT 110 and HIT 111 plus either BIO 141/142 or NAS 150 or permission of instructor.
Lecture 4 hours per week.

HIT 254 - Advanced Coding and Reimbursement
Stresses advanced coding skills through practical exercises using actual medical records. Introduces CPT-4 coding system and guidelines for out-patient/ambulatory surgery coding. Introduces prospective payment system and its integration with ICD-9-CM coding.
Lecture 3-4 hours. Laboratory 0-3 hours. Total 3-6 hours per week.

HIT 255 - Health Data Classification Systems II: CPT
Focuses on procedure classification using CPT. This system is currently utilized for collecting health data for the purposes of statistical research and financial reporting. Prerequisite(s): HIT 110 and HIT 111 plus either BIO 141/142 or NAS 150 or permission of instructor.
