SCM 100 - Introduction to American Sign Language
Teaches the fundamentals of fingerspelling, numbering, American Sign Language structure, and sign language vocabulary. Develops signing skills for communication with people who are deaf and hard of hearing. Incorporates the non-verbal aspects of communications including eye movement, facial expression, and body language.
Lecture 3-4 hours. Laboratory 0-2 hours. Total 3-5 hours per week.

SCM 201 - Advanced American Sign Language II
Provides students with additional American Sign Language vocablulary. Emphasizes linguistic aspects of ASL, including classifiers, syntax, locatives, placement, sentence types, and idioms. Considers ASL literary forms such as poetry, theatre, and SStorytelling, as well as other related topics.
Lecture 2-3 hours. Laboratory 0-2 hours. Total 3-4 hours per week.
