AST 80 - Basic Keyboarding I
Introduces students to the basic operation of the microcomputer with the focus on the development of keyboarding skills using basic keyboarding by touch.
Lecture 1-2 hours per week.

AST 81 - Basic Keyboarding II
Introduces students to basic business letter formats, simple tables, basic memo formats, and skill-building techniques. A laboratory co-requisite (AST 83) may be required.

AST 82 - Basic Keyboarding III
Introduces students to tables with columnar headings, invoices, simple charts, various business letter formats, memos, and skill- building techniques. A laboratory co-requisite (AST 84) may be required.

AST 85 - Office Procedures I
Introduces students to the general office procedures of telephone techniques, reprographics, social interactions in the office, and other general office correspondence. Utilizes the microcomputer for all business correspondence and related documents.

AST 86 - Office Procedures II
Introduces students to interviewing techniques, refines telephone skills, reprographics skills, social skills, and other general office techniques.

AST 88 - Microcomputer Concepts and Applications
Introduces students to hands-on basic computer concepts using a state-of-the-art word processing package. Focus will be on document origination, revisions, and hard-copy layouts. A laboratory co-requisite (AST 89) may be required.

AST 90 - Coordinated Internship
Supervises on-the-job training in selected business, industrial or service firms coordinated by the college.
Credit/practice ratio not to exceed 1:5 hours. May be repeated for credit. Variable hours.

AST 101 - Keyboarding I
Teaches the alpha/numeric keyboard with emphasis on correct techniques, speed, and accuracy. Teaches formatting of basic personal and business correspondence, reports and tablulation. A laboratory co-requisite (AST 103) may be required.

AST 102 - Keyboarding II
Develops keyboarding and document production skills with emphasis on preparation of specialized business documents. Continues skill-building for speed and accuracy. Prerequisite AST 101. A laboratory co-requisite (AST 104) may be required.

AST 107 - Editing/Proofreading Skills
Develops skills essential to creating and editing business documents. Covers grammar, spelling, diction, punctuation, capitalization, and other usage problems.

AST 114 - Keyboarding for Information Processing
Teaches the alphabetic and numeric keys: develops correct techniques and competency in the use of computer keyboards. May include basic correspondence and report formats. A laboratory co-requisite (AST 115) may be required.

AST 137 - Records Management
Teaches filing and records management procedures for hard copy, electronic, and micrographic systems. Identifies equipment, supplies, and solutions to records management problems.

AST 141 - Word Processing (Specify Software)
Teaches creating and editing documents, including line and page layouts, columns, fonts, search/replace, cut/paste, spell/thesaurus, and advanced editing and formatting features of word processing software. Prerequisite AST 101 or equivalent. A labaoratory co-requisite (AST 144) may be required.

AST 142 - Word Processing II (Specify Software)
Teaches advanced software applications. Prerequisite AST 141 or equivalent. A laboratory co-requisite (AST 145) may be required.

Teaches techniques of oral and written communications. Emphasizes writing and presenting business-related materials.

AST 236 - Specialized Software Applications (Specify Software)
Teaches specialized integrated software application on the microcomputer. Emphasizes document production to meet business and industry standards. Prerequisite AST 101 or equivalent. A laboratory co-requisite (AST 237) may be required.

AST 240 - Machine Transcription
Develops proficiency in the use of transcribing equipment to produce business documents. Emphasizes listening techniques, business English, and proper formatting. Includes production rates and mailable copy requirements. A laboratory co-requisite (AST 241) may be required. Co-requisite AST 102 or equivalent.

AST 243 - Office Administration I
Develops an understanding of the administrative support role and the skills necessary to provide organizational and technical support in a contemporary office setting. Emphasizes the development of critical-thinking, problem-solving, and job performance skills in a business office environment. Prerequisite AST 101.

AST 245 - Medical Machine Transcription
Develops machine transcription skills, integrating operation of transcribing equipment with understanding of medical terminology. Emphasizes dictation techniques and accurate transcription of medical documents in prescribed formats. Prerequisite AST 102 or equivalent. A laboratory co-requisite (AST 246) may be required.

AST 253 - Advanced Desktop Publishing I (Specify Software)
Introduces specific desktop publishing software. Teaches document layout and design, fonts, type styles, style sheets, and graphics. Prerequisite AST 101 or equivalent and experience in using a word processing package. A laboratory co-requisite (AST 255) may be required.

AST 257 - WP Desktop Publishing (Specify Software)
Uses word processing software to teach advanced document preparation. Prerequisite AST 101 or equivalent and experience in using the specified word processing software. A laboratory co-requisite (AST 258) may be required.

AST 260 - Presentation Software (Specify Software)
Teaches creation of slides including use of text, clip art, and graphs. Includes techniques for enhancing presentations with on-screen slide show as well as printing to transparencies and hand-outs. Incorporates use of sound and video clips. A laboratory co-requisite (AST 261) may be required.

AST 299 - Supervised Study
Assigns problems for independent study incorporating previous instruction and supervised by the instructor.
