HLT 100 - First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation
Focuses on the principles and techniques of safety, first aid, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
Lecture 2-3 hours per week.

HLT 104 - CPR Training for Instructor Trainers
Provides training in instructional activities, recordkeeping, legal aspects and research activities relevant to CPR instruction. Evaluates CPR performance skills, teaching skills and knowledge base. Required for Instructor-Trainer certification by American Heart Association. Prerequisite - current BLS Provider certification which has been in effect at least one year.

Provides training in coordinated mouth-to-mouth artificial ventilation and chest compression, choking, life-threatening emergencies, and sudden illness. Equivalent to EMS 100.

Provides knowledge and proficiency in basic life support and in actions necessary to minimize patient discomfort and prevention of further complications. Meets requirements for Virginia Certification as a first responder. Equivalent to EMS 101. It is also listed under the HLT prefix to allow EMS's business and industry personnel to enroll in a health class to apply toward a degree or certificate HLT requirements.

Focuses on the physical needs of the preschool child and the methods by which these are met. Emphasizes health routines, hygiene, nutrition, feeding and clothing habits, childhood diseases, and safety as related to health growth and development.

Studies nutrient components of food, including carbohydrates, fats, proteins, vitamins, minerals and water. Provides a behavioral approach to nutrient guidelines for the development and maintenance of optimum wellness.
