Teaches horticulture and landscaping for home planning and planting. Covers plant taxonomy, plant selection, soil testing, fertilizers, and pest control.

HRT 115 - Plant Propagation
Teaches principles and practices of plant propagation. Examines commercial and home practices. Provides experience in techniques using seed-spores, cuttings, grafting, budding, layering and division.

HRT 116 - Home Horticulture
Introduces basic plant science. Covers soils and fertilizers, plant selection. and plant pests. Also covers installation, maintenance, and basic gardening techniques.

Explains why, when, and how irrigation systems are used by the grounds management industry. Includes component selection, system design, installation, operation, and maintenance.

Covers commercial practices related to production of floriculture crops. Considers production requirements, environmental control and management, and cultural techniques.

Studies current approaches to improving home landscapes. Emphasizes planning, proper implementation, and landscape maintenance.

Studies taxonomy, anatomy, morphology, physiology, and genetics of plants as applied to identification, propagation and culture.

HRT 137 - Environmental Factors in Plant Growth
Explores environmental factors which affect plant growth, including rainfall, humidity, wind, temperature, sunlight, irrigation, heating, and shading. Examines methods of inducing and breeding dormancy, lighting, and shading systems, and the relationship between day length and flowering.

Studies identification, culture, and uses of indoor plants in interior landscaping. Includes tropical, subtropical and non-hardy temperate plants. Teaches scientific and common names of plants.

Teaches skills required for the composition of basic table arrangements. Includes the history of design styles, identification of flowers and green, identification and use of equipment, and conditioning and handling of flowers.

HRT 266 - Advanced Floral Design
Teaches skills required for composition of traditional floral designs and contemporary floral designs. Includes use of exotic florals to create arrangement styles such as Japanese, European and Williamsburg.

Covers turfgrass identificationk selection, culture, propagation, and pest control. Surveys commercial turf care operations and use of common equipment.
