Presents techniques and methods for encouraging the development of language and perceptual skills in young children. Stresses improvement of vocabulary, speech and methods to stimulate discussion. Surveys children's literature, examines elements of quality story telling and story reading, and stresses the use of audio-visual materials.

Examines the fundamentals of infant and toddler development, including planning and implementing programs in group care. Explores positive ways to build self-esteem in children and help them develop self-control. Presents practical ideas for encouraging pro-social behavior in children and emphasizes basic skills and techniques in classroom management.
