BLD 20 - Introduction to Plumbing
Presents an introduction to the principles and practices of plumbing as related to light construction. Enables students to plan, prepare for, and install supply and waste lines, and install kitchen and bath fixtures.
Lecture 1 hour. Laboratory 2 hours. Total 3 hours per week.

BLD 101 - Construction Management I
Presents overviews of all phases of construction project management. Introduces students to philosophy, responsibilities, methodology, and techniques of the construction process. Introduces topics related to the construction and design industries, organizations, construction contracts, bidding procedures, insurance, taxes, bonding, cost accounting, business methods, including basic computer usage, safety and general project management procedures.

BLD 102 - Construction Management II
Emphasizes advanced management techniques and methodology. Includes engineering economics, accounting principles, life cycle costing, value engineering, systems analysis with computer applications, work improvement, quality control, and a broad overview of the construction management profession.

BLD 105 - Shop Practices and Procedures
Introduces basic hand and power tools with emphasis on proper care and safety practices. Introduces materials used in building trades including metals, plastics, and woods with stress placed on the processing techniques of each. Emphasizes fasteners such as screws, rivets, and glues as well as brazed, soldered, and welded joints.
Lecture 1-2 hours. Laboratory 2-3 hours. Total 3-5 hours per week.

BLD 110 - Introduction to Construction
Covers basic knowledge and requirements needed in the construction trades. Introduces use of tools and equipment, with emphasis on construction safety, including personal and tool safety. Provides a working introduction to basic blueprint reading and fundamentals of construction mathematics.

BLD 111 - Blueprint Reading and the Building Code
Introduces reading and interpreting various kinds of blueprints and working drawings with reference to local, state, and national building codes.

BLD 120 - Applied Construction Mathematics
Presents a review of mathematic principles and concepts necessary for typical construction applications. Includes: while numbers, order of operations, fractions, decimals, weights, measures and conversions, ratio and proportions, percentages, angles and perimeters, volume and surface area solids, board measure, lumber pricing, computations for preparing footing, foundations and slabs, beams and framing roofs systems and stairs. Covers basic estimation and working from construction plans. This course is not intended to satisfy general education requirements. Prerequisite: MTH 02.

BLD 125 - Introduction to Carpentry Trades
Introduces entry-level students to the carpentry trade(s), the Wheels of Learning apprenticeship programs, various types of fasteners, and the wide variety of building materials. Prerequisite: BLD 110.

Covers safety on the job, appropriate use of power tools, basic construction techniques, an introduction to working drawings, and the team approach to residential buildings. Presents an introduction to selection and use of ladders and scaffolds, basic form removal and demolition, and use of basic first aid. Includes the concepts of carpentry framing for floors, walls, ceilings, porches and decks. Includes theoretical and practical application as well as the concepts of carpentry framing for roof, truss installation and door and window installation. Part I of II.

BLD 135 - Building Construction Carpentry
Presents woodworking technologies in carpentry. Introduces types of framing and building materials and equipment used in residential and light commercial construction. Emphasizes the development of skills in the safe use of hand and machine woodworking tools and development of construction terminology. Includes laboratory involvement in wall framing and carpentry practices.

BLD 140 - Principles of Plumbing Trade I
Studies the plumbing trade, the structure of the plumbing trade, apprenticeship standards, job safety, tools of the trade, the approved installation of plumbing materials, types of sanitary drainage pipe and piping layout of sanitary piping.

BLD 141 - Principles of Plumbing Trade II
Studies the sizing of sanitary drainage and vent piping for single family dwelling, two-story, single-family dwellings, duplex residence, apartment building, and multi-story building.

BLD 142 - Principles of Plumbing Trade III
Studies sizing of water piping and control valves, piping materials, piping layout, and the proper installation of water piping. Explains how to identify cross control and the critical levels of contamination, means of protection against back flow, installing back flow preventers, and back flow preventive testing.

BLD 143 - Plumbing Blueprint Reading
Focuses on blueprint reading, plan reviews, schematic drawing, isometric view drawing and architectural blueprint reading on single-, two-family and multi-story dwelling for drainage, vents and water piping design.

BLD 144 - Plumbing Code and Certification Preparation
Teaches the use of the plumbing code standard book (BOCA), references standards, the reading and use of charts and tables, and preparation for the journeyman's certification and the cross-connection control certification test.

Presents fundamentals of masonry practices. Includes foundations, block laying skills, mortar mixing, measuring, and introduction to bricklaying techniques. Emphasizes hands-on applications of block and brick techniques.

Introduces areas of construction field management which relate directly to on-the-job requirements of construction operations viewed from the construction superintendent's standpoint. Includes theories of project management and field supervision; utilization of equipment, labor and material; construction site development; requirements of field scheduling; management input requirements; job recording and documentation; supervision responsibility.

Teaches students the specialized construction management best practices that must be utilized when managing a sustainable project. Includes industry standards for green construction as identified by popular building rating systems.

Focuses on materials take-off and computing quantities from working drawings and specifications. Includes methods for computing quantities of concrete, steel, masonry, roofing, excavation. Deals with pricing building components, materials and processes, as well as transportation and handling costs, mark-up discount procedures, equipment cost and labor rates.

Presents an introduction to computer programs for construction estimating. Produces a cost estimate for a major project with the aid of a computer program. Use local prerequisites.
