CHD 82 - Early Childhood Development Overview
Develops beginning skills for students to work in a variety of child care programs, including home and center-based. Examines the provider's role inn supporting children's growth and development, in working with multi-age groups, special need children, and their families.

CHD 84 - Activities, Routines, and Settings
Prepares the student to plan and implement activities, routines, and settings for children of various age groups and differing ability levels.

CHD 86 - Promoting Positive Behavior
Introduces factors related to social, cognitive, physical, and emotional development of children. Develops practical skills and techniques for promoting positive behavior in children.

CHD 89 - Child Health and Safety Essentials
Focuses on the skills and techniques necessary for providing an environment that is healthy and safe for children of various ages and abilities.

CHD 117 - Introduction to Reading Methods
Introduces current practices of teaching reading in the elementary school. Familiarizes students with materials currently in use, emphasizes observation of various reading techniques and trends in the classroom.

CHD 118 - Language Arts for Young Children
Presents techniques and methods for encouraging the development of language and perceptual skills in young children. Stresses improvement of vocabulary, speech and methods to stimulate discussion. Surveys children's literature, examines elements of quality story telling and story reading, and stresses the use of audio-visual materials.
Lecture 2 hours. Laboratory 2 hours. Total 4 hours per week.

CHD 120 - Introduction to Early Childhood Education
Introduces early childhood development through activities and experiences in nursery, pre-kindergarten, kindergarten, and primary programs. Investigates classroom organization and procedures, and use of classroom time and materials, approaches to education for young children, professionalism, and curricular procedures.

CHD 125 - Creative Activities for Children
Prepares individuals to work with young children in the arts and other creative age-appropriate activities. Investigates affective classroom experiences and open-ended activities.
Lecture 2 hours. Laboratory 2 hours. Total 4 hours per week.

CHD 126 - Science & Math Concepts for Children
Covers the selection of appropriate developmental learning materials for developing activities to stimulate the logical thinking skills in children.

CHD 167 - CDA Theories and Applications:Portfolio
Supports the CDA candidate in organizing and developing a portfolio for presentation at local assessment team meeting

CHD 190 - Coordinated Internship
Supervises on-the-job training in selected business, industrial or service firms coordinated by the college.
Credit/practice ratio not to exceed 1:5 hours. May be repeated for credit. Variable hours.

CHD 205 - Guiding the Behavior of Children
Explores positive ways to build self-esteem in children and help them develop self-control. Presents practical ideas for encouraging pro-social behavior in children and emphasizes basic skills and techniques in classroom management.

CHD 240 - Play and Early Childhood Curriculum Development
Explores and examines how curriculum supports play. Focuses on competencies that are appropriate to early childhood education. Studies theories of play development, instructional strategies that place play at the center of curriculum, and how play can be used to improve developmentally-based childhood education.
