- VET 100 - Introduction to Animal Science
- Surveys the common breeds of small and large domestic animals, including identification, management, and restraint.Lecture 2-3 hours. Laboratory 3 hours. Total 5-6 hours per week.
3-4 credits - VET 101 - Introduction to Veterinary Assisting
- Presents basic information about assisting the veterinarian. Includes information about companion animals, primarily dogs and cats.Lecture 3 hours per week.
3 credits - VET 102 - Care and Maintenance of Small Domestic Animals
- Presents basic information about general and veterinary management of small domestic animals, especially dogs and cats. Provides information concerning animal and human safety, animal restraint, nutrition, common diseases, medical terminology, medical history, and other topics related to the care and maintenance of small animals.Lecture 3 hours per week.
3 credits - VET 103 - Veterinary Office Assisting
- Presents basic information about common business procedures used in veterinary practice. Includes client and staff relationships and veterinary regulations.Lecture 3 hours per week.
3 credits - VET 105 - Introduction to Veterinary Technology
- Introduces the role of veterinary technicians in veterinary practice. Includes medical terminology, ethics, professionalism, and basic concepts of patient care.Lecture 2-3 hours. Laboratory 3 hours. Total 5-6 hours per week.
3-4 credits - VET 111 - Anatomy and Physiology of Domestic Animals
- Introduces the structure and function of the animal and of all the organ systems of common domestic animals. Includes histology, embryology, and genetics. Includes laboratory dissection and demonstrations.Lecture 3 hours. Laboratory 3 hours. Total 6 hours per week.
4 credits - VET 115 - Laboratory Techniques I
- Introduces techniques in hematology, urinalysis, and parasitology. Includes other laboratory tests performed in veterinary practice.Lecture 3 hours. Laboratory 3 hours. Total 6 hours per week.
4 credits - VET 116 - Animal Breeds and Behavior
- Surveys common species of domestic animals including basic husbandry, care, and handling. Introduces identification of various breeds and their characteristics, including behavior patterns, problems, and solutions.Lecture 3 hours per week.
3 credits - VET 121 - Clinical Practices I
- Presents advanced clinical techniques commonly performed in veterinary practice. Part I of II.Lecture 2-3 hours. Laboratory 3-6 hours. Total 5-8 hours per week.
3-4 credits - VET 122 - Clinical Practices II
- Presents advanced clinical techniques commonly performed in veterinary practice. Part II of II.Lecture 2-3 hours. Laboratory 3-6 hours. Total 5-8 hours per week.
3-4 credits - VET 135 - Anesthesia of Domestic Animals
- Introduces the basic principles of anesthesia of common domestic species. Includes techniques of induction, monitoring, and recovery of patients using injectable and inhalation anesthetics.Lecture 1 hours. Laboratory 3 hours. Total 4 hours per week.
2 credits - VET 190 - Coordinated Internship
- Supervises on-the-job training in selected business, industrial or service firms coordinated by the college.Credit/practice ratio not to exceed 1:5 hours. May be repeated for credit. Variable hours.
1-5 credits - VET 196 - On-Site Training
- Specializes in career orientation and training program without pay in selected businesses and industry, supervised and coordinated by the college.Credit/work ratio not to exceed 1:5 hours. May be repeated for credit. Variable hours.
1-5 credits - VET 211 - Animal Diseases I
- Describes animal health and disease, surgical techniques, and animal behavior. Includes demonstrations and selected observation and practice in animal hospitals, clinics, or research laboratories. Part I of II.Lecture 2 hours per week.
2 credits - VET 212 - Animal Diseases II
- Describes animal health and disease, surgical techniques, and animal behavior. Includes demonstrations and selected observation and practice in animal hospitals, clinics, or research laboratories. Part II of II.Lecture 2 hours per week.
2 credits - VET 215 - Laboratory Techniques II
- Expands concepts introduced in VET 115 including clinical chemistry, cytology, and other laboratory tests performed in veterinary practice.Lecture 3 hours. Laboratory 3 hours. Total 6 hours per week.
Prerequisite: VET 115.4 credits - VET 216 - Animal Pharmacology
- Studies drugs and other medical substances of veterinary importance. Includes their characteristics, usage, measurement, dosage, administration, and also pharmacy management.Lecture 2-3 hours per week.
2-3 credits - VET 217 - Introduction to Laboratory, Zoo and Wildlife Medicine
- Focuses on the identification, captive management, restraint and diseases of fish, reptiles, birds, rodents, rabbits, ferrets, primates, wild carnivores, and wild herbivores. Presents the fields of laboratory research zoological medicine.Lecture 2-3 hours per week.
2-3 credits - VET 221 - Advanced Clinical Practices III
- Presents advanced clinical techniques commonly performed in veterinary practice.Part I of II.4 credits
