Assigns problems for independent study incorporating previous instruction and supervised by the instructor.

- SCM 100 - Introduction to American Sign Language

Teaches the fundamentals of fingerspelling, numbering, American Sign Language structure, and sign language vocabulary. Develops signing skills for communication with people who are deaf and hard of hearing. Incorporates the non-verbal aspects of communications including eye movement, facial expression, and body language.
Lecture 3-4 hours. Laboratory 0-2 hours. Total 3-5 hours per week.

- SCM 110 - Intermediate American Sign Language

Provides students with additional American sign language structure and vocabulary. Focuses on development of expressive and receptive signing skills. Teaches idiomatic expressions and colloquialisms. Prerequisite:
SCM 100 or consent of instructor.
Lecture 3-4 hours. Laboratory 0-2 hours. Total 3-5 hours per week.
