Emphasizes critical reading skills to develop comprehension and critical thinking (point of view/bias, inferences, analogies, and propaganda). Strengthens writing skills by developing paragraphs into five-paragraph essays using formal outlines, thesis statements, rhetorical patterns of development (summary writing, examples, process, and classification) and conventions of Standard English. Prerequisite:
BSK 44 or appropriate placement.
Lecture 0-2 hours. Laboratory 0-4 hours. Total 2-4 hours per week.
