Prepares the student for initial ALS certification and for Virginia and National Registry Intermediate certification. Includes the theory and application of the following: foundations, human systems, pharmacology, overview of shock, venous access, airway management, patient assessment, respiratory emergencies, allergic reaction, and assessment based management. (Conforms to the 1998 Department of Transportation Curriculum for EMT-Intermediate/Paramedics.) Prerequisites: Current State or National Registry EMT-B and CPR.
Lecture 2-3 hours. Laboratory 2-3 hours. Total 4-6 hours per week.
