Covers the programming and operation of various CNC grinders and the set-up of selected grinding operations. Focuses on understanding the importance of machine parameters and wheel selection to surface finish in grinding applications.

Covers shop theory and mathematics dealing with fractional and precision measuring tools. Provides an introduction to Millwright Technology. Covers use of millwright hand and power tools, gaskets, o-rings, rigging, base plates, lubrication, and bearings with emphasis on OSHA standards and EPA hazardous waste control. Includes development of applied math, field sketching, and basic layout skills.

MAC 118 - Millwright Technology II
Provides an introduction to pumps, repairs, pneumatic and hydraulic systems, basic gearboxes, alignments, motors and turbines. Covers use of precision measuring tool, seals, bearings, couplings, shims, belts, chain drives, fans and blowers. Students will demonstrate ability to troubleshoot and repair conveyors. Prerequisite: MAC 117.

Applies the differential coefficient of expansion to measurements. Demonstrates proficiency in obtaining multiple measurements from a reference plane to inspect a single feature. Demonstrates proficiency using the computer assisted optical comparator to measure circles, arcs, and angles in addition to using surface roundness and surface finish gauges. Covers the techniques for establishing part alignments, centerlines, rotation, and elevation. Applies machining methods to a flow cell precision machining production environment to witness positive production and quality impacts.

Covers coordinate measuring machine (CMM) programming and measuring, tool presetting and validation. Examines Lean and Six Sigma methodology in a live precision machining flow cell.
