Course Description
Provides students with the opportunity to work in various activities of a play, dance or musical production, including, but not limited to, performance, dramaturgy, orchestra, set design, stage carpentry, sound, costuming, lighting, stage managing, props, promotion, or stage crew. Variable hours per week. May be repeated for credit. This course is cross-listed with CST 136 and DAN 136.
Laboratory 2 hours. Total 2 hours per week.

General Course Purpose
MUS 129 gives students experience in theatrical, dance and/or musical productions as performers, musicians and technicians.
Course Prerequisites/Corequisites
Prerequisite: Previous performance experience is recommended.
Course Objectives
- Communication
- Effectively communicate performative observations through written and/or oral communication.
- Critical Thinking
- Identify and explain how various elements of a production (text, sets, lighting, sound, costume/makeup, etc. ) contribute to personal perception.
- Evaluate a performance (live or video) by analyzing various components that influence viewpoint.
- Cultural and Social Understanding
- Demonstrate knowledge of the role of theatre, music and/or dance in society
- Recognize/describe how theatre, music and/or dance influences individuals and/or society.
- Recognize/describe how individual and societal factors influence theatrical, musical and/or dance creation.

- Augment performance skills through assignments/assessments designed to measure performative goals.
- Demonstrate the development of receptivity to performance texts from different historical periods.
- Cultivate personal goals related to performance analysis, production experience, or performance attendance.
- Theatrical Skills
- Demonstrate an increased awareness of performative skills and processes.
- Experience live performance both as a performer and audience member.

- Practice voice, speech, trust and relaxation techniques.
- Perform a role in a theatrical, musical and/or dance production.

- Utilize basic tools for the evaluation and performance of traditional theatrical, musical and/or dance texts.
