The Substance Abuse Counseling program will prepare students to work as an assistant with individuals who have alcohol and drug abuse and addition problems. The Substance Abuse Counseling program is designed to fulfill the Virginia state educational requirements for the certification of substance abuse counselor assistant. To meet substance abuse counselor assistant certification requirements, the applicant is expected to meet specific educational requirements including didactic and experiential learning with a supervised internship required.
