GIS 101 - Introduction to Geospatial Technology I
Provides an introduction to the concepts of Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Global Positioning Systems, (GPS) and remote sensing components of Geospatial Technology. Teaches the introductory concepts of geographic location and problem solving by using GIS and GPS units in demonstrating solutions to cross-curricular applications of the technology. Part I of II.
Lecture 3 hours per week.
Prerequisite: Basic Computer Literacy.

GIS 102 - Introduction to Geospatial Technology II
Continues with the concepts of Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Global Positioning Systems (GPS) and remote sensing components of Geospatial Technology. Covers additional concepts of geographic location and problem solving by using GIS and GPS units in demonstrating solutions to cross-curricular applications of the technology. Part II of II. .
Lecture 3 hours per week.
Prerequisite: Basic Computer Literacy.

Provides an opportunity to explore topical areas of interest to or needed by students.
May be used also for special honors courses. May be repeated for credit. Variable hours.

GIS 255 - Exploring Our Earth: Introduction to Remote Sensing
Introduces material to understand the fundamental physical and mathematical principles and techniques of Remote Sensing. Introduces how each part of the electromagnetic spectrum is used to gather data about Earth. Describes limitations imposed by satellites, aircraft, and sensors. Surveys various methods to access and apply Earth observation/Remote Sensing data. Teaches students to use Remote Sensing software to process and manipulate Landsat, SPOT, photographic, and other imagery in a hands-on approach to Remote Sensing analysis.
3 - 4 Credits. Lecture 2 hours. Laboratory 2 - 4 hours. Total 4 - 6 hours per week.
