- MDA 195 - Topics In
- Provides an opportunity to explore topical areas of interest to or needed by students.May be used also for special honors courses. May be repeated for credit. Variable hours.
1-5 credits - MDA 197 - Cooperative Education
- Supervises in on-the-job training for pay in approved business, industrial and service firms, coordinated by the college's cooperative education office. Is applicable to all occupational- technical curricula at the discretion of the college.Credit/work ratio not to exceed 1:5 hours. May be repeated for credit. Variable hours.
1-5 credits - MDA 198 - Seminar and Project
- Requires completion of a project or research report related to the student's occupational objectives and a study of approaches to the selection and pursuit of career opportunities in the field.May be repeated for credit. Variable hours.
1-5 credits - MDA 199 - Supervised Study
- Assigns problems for independent study incorporating previous instruction and supervised by the instructor.May be repeated for credit. Variable hours.
1-5 credits - MDA 207 - Medical Law and Ethics
- Instructs the student in the legal relationship of the physician, patient, and medical assistant; professional liabilities, Medical Practice Acts, professional attitudes and behavior and the types of medical practice. Also includes a basic history of medicine.Lecture 2 hours per week.
2 credits - MDA 208 - Medical Office Coding
- Introduces the students to ICD-9 conversion to ICD-10 and CPT-4 classification coding systems used in physician offices, hospitals and ambulatory care settings.Lecture 1 hour. Laboratory 3 hours. Total 4 hours per week.
2 credits - MDA 209 - Medical Office Insurance
- Focuses on various medical insurance policies with in-depth study of health insurance and managed care including capitation versus few for service in the HMO area. Discusses managed care companies in this area and their requirements.Lecture 1 hour. Laboratory 3 hours. Total 4 hours per week.
2 credits - MDA 210 - Medical Office Software Applications
- Instructs the students in the use of software in the medical office including billing, scheduling appointment and patient records.Laboratory 2 hours per week.
