Course Description
Focuses on specific skills related to the assessment and management of common medical emergencies.
Laboratory 2 hours. Total 2 hours per week.

General Course Purpose
The purpose of this course is gain practical experience and demonstrate the principles of care and management of patients complaining of medical emergencies.
Course Prerequisites/Corequisites
Prerequisite: Current Virginia EMT and CPR certification as approved by the Virginia Office of EMS. Corequisite: EMS 135.
Course Objectives
- Demonstrate integration of scene and patient assessment findings with knowledge of epidemiology and pathophysiology to form a field impression, including developing a list of differential diagnoses through clinical reasoning to modify the assessment and formulate a treatment plan.
- Integrate medical assessment, intravenous therapy, intraosseous therapy, and multiple routes of medication administration within the context of comprehensive patient management.
