CHD 118 - Language Arts for Young Children
Emphasizes the early development of children's language and literacy skills. Presents techniques and methods for supporting all aspects of early literacy. Surveys children's literature, and examines elements of promoting oral literacy, print awareness, phonological awareness, alphabetic principle, quality storytelling and story reading. Addresses strategies for intervention and support for exceptional children and English Language Learners.
Lecture 2 hours. Laboratory 2 hours. Total 4 hours per week.

Section DL01: Class will be conducted in Canvas. There are no in-person class meetings. Students are expected to turn in weekly assignments and interact with the instructor and other students using the discussion board. Optional Zoom meeting sessions that will be recorded for students who cannot attend may be utilized in place of in-class lecture

Section 01HD: This is 3 credit VIRTUAL HYBRID class. There is a weekly 2 hour lecture and a 2 hour laboratory requirement. Students will be required to attend a VIRTUAL Zoom lecture EVERY Thursday from 11:30 AM-1:30 PM
. The laboratory requirement is met by doing observations in the field (or by video), hands-on activities as well as online assignments.
