EDU 200 - Introduction to Teaching As a Profession
Provides an orientation to the teaching profession in Virginia, including historical perspectives, current issues, and future trends in education on the national and state levels. Emphasizes information about teacher licensure examinations, steps to certification, teacher preparation and induction programs, and attention to critical shortage areas in Virginia. Includes supervised field placement (recommended: 40 clock hours) in a K-12 school.
Lecture 2 hours. Laboratory 2 hours. Total 4 hours per week.
Successful completion of 24 credits of transfer courses or departmental approval for students accepted into Virginia's Teachers for Tomorrow program.

Section DL01: This course is 3 credits. There is a weekly 2 hour lecture and a 2 hour laboratory requirement. The lecture requirement is met by using the Canvas course site. The laboratory requirement is met by doing a 40 hour field placement in a K-12 school (or by video if needed due to Covid 19), hands-on activities as well as online assignments
. This section does not require the purchase of a textbook or additional course materials. Students who register for this section must have regular access to the Internet. Requires basic computer skills
