Course Description

Introduces students to the basics of theatrical scene design including script analysis, theory, research, visual creation and presentation, construction techniques, difficulty and budgeting, collaboration and the importance of historical periods in art and architecture.
Lecture 2 hours. Laboratory 2 hours. Total 4 hours per week.

General Course Purpose
For transfer into four-year theatre programs which include courses in theatre as part of their curriculum, and to prepare students for employment in theatre and design.
Course Objectives
- Demonstrate the principles of the scene design process
- Exhibit knowledge of introductory modeling, drafting, and rendering techniques
- Create and understand the comprehensive paperwork important in scene design
- Apply the fundamentals of script analysis for the Scenic Designer
- Exhibit knowledge and practical applications of color, line and texture
- Properly communicate construction techniques to the scene shop
- Demonstrate an ability to collaborate by working on teams on a project
