Introduces human service agencies, roles and careers. Presents an historical perspective of the field as it relates to human services today. Additional topics include values clarification and needs of target populations.

HMS 100 is the first course in the Human Services sequence and must be completed with a grade of "C" or better before students can enroll in MEN 101.
HMS 100-N01A is a special enriched section designed for students in the Pre-Social Work Specialization in Human Services. The course content is similar to SLWK 201 at Virginia Commonwealth University. Students who plan to transfer to VCU/VSU must earn a grade of "B" or better in this course section.
