Course Description

Consists of performance from the standard jazz small group repertoires, including study of ensemble techniques, improvisation, and arranging. Divisional approval and performing experience required. May be repeated for credit.
(1-2 Cr.) Lecture 0, Lab 3-6 hours. Total 3-6 hours per week.

General Course Purpose
To produce a performing musical ensemble which will meet the ensemble requirements for music majors and serve the college community through quality jazz performances.

Course Objectives
- Read tunes from lead sheet notation.
- Perform at least one public concert.
- Apply a variety of improvisational techniques to a tune.
- Interpret music from various eras in an appropriate style.
- Work with other musicians, giving and receiving positive, constructive comments.
