Course Description
Provides an overview of developing a positive and inclusive learning environment. Emphasizes methods for managing the diverse needs of students in order to promote a positive learning environment. Addresses how to establish and communicate expectations for effective instruction.

General Course Purpose
EDU 206 provides teachers with context and tools for developing and maintaining a positive learning environment.
Course Prerequisites/Corequisites
Prerequisite: EDU 200.
Course Objectives
- Foundations of Classroom Management
- Describe research-based classroom and behavior management techniques, classroom community building, positive behavior supports, and individual interventions, including techniques that promote emotional well-being and teach and maintain behavioral conduct and skills consistent with norms, standards, and rules of the educational environment.
- Describe historical trends in classroom management.
- Explain variables that impact student behavior and learning.
- Meeting the Needs of All Students
- Identify diverse approaches to classroom management based upon behavioral, cognitive, affective, social and ecological theory and practice.
- Explain how diversity influences the dynamics of a class.
- Describe characteristics of a classroom that are reflective of all students.
- Identify factors that may negatively impact student success in the classroom.
- Discuss the role of Response-to-Intervention in effectively managing a classroom.
