A remote asynchronous (RA) class designed for the required internship for the Cinema AFA degree program. The academic portion of the class will reside on Canvas and be completed weekly. Though there is a scheduled class time, that is only as needed for session conferences and ?check-ins? with the students via Zoom but that time is only needed if deemed so by the course instructor, otherwise, all of the academic work will be done online in Canvas without synchronous meetings. The other component of the course is an internship with a professional client/company, either external to the college or an internal position, which further challenges the student in the field of Cinema, either in a film-related business or in a position completing cinema-related work for that establishment. The student must have at least fifteen college credits and nine in the Cinema degree though it is recommended it should be in the last one or two semesters of the degree to strengthen the student as an asset for the company. An internship must be secured prior to the semester starting as a total of 161 hours of internship time must be completed over the 12 weeks of the class. In light of the current lockdown restrictions, there will be increased flexibility in approving your internship assignment. Either work with companies to provide remote support, such as customer relations or research, or find an employer open to relaxed lockdown restrictions toward the start of the summer session. If no internship can be secured by the student, then the college has an alternate research-based project where NOVA will be your employer supervisor and you will work with other ?interns? also participating in the alternate project and you all will complete one research and outreach project while working remotely and independently. If you have any questions about this option or need any further guidance, please reach out to the Cinema Internship Coordinator, Chris Stallings at: cstallings@nvcc.edu. Hybrid Course |
