GOL 105 - Physical Geology
Introduces the composition and structure of the earth and modifying agents and processes. Investigates the formation of minerals and rocks, weathering, erosion, earthquakes, and crustal deformation.

Traces the evolution of the earth and life through time. Presents scientific theories of the origin of the earth and life and interprets rock and fossil record.

Examines the dynamics of the oceans and ocean basins. Applies the principles of physical, chemical, biological, and geological oceanography. Part I of II.

Investigates geologic phenomena. Includes activities such as observation of regional geology and landforms, collection of samples, and measurement and interpretation of geologic structures.

Requires completion of a project or research report related to the student's occupational objectives and a study of approaches to the selection and pursuit of career opportunities in the field.

Surveys the major invertebrate and vertebrate fossil groups. Covers the distribution of fossils through time, evolution and biostratigraphic and paleoecologic significance. Prerequisite GOL 106.

Provides details for study of minerals. Focuses on the structure and properties of minerals, their occurrence, and uses. Prerequisite GOL 105.

Explores the interaction between man and his physical environment. Stresses geologic hazards and environmental pollution utilizing case histories. Prerequisite GOL 105.

Supervises on-the-job training in selected business, industrial or service firms coordinated by the college.
