PHT 221 - Studio Lighting I
Examines advanced lighting and camera techniques under controlled studio conditions. Includes view camera use, electronic flash, advanced lighting techniques, color temperature and filtration, and lighting ratios. Requires outside shooting. Part I of II.
Lecture 2 hours. Laboratory 3 hours. Total 5 hours per week.

No prerequisites. Introduces digital scanning, and non-destructive postproduction, montage, and compositing with Adobe Photoshop as used by photographers, artists, and graphic designers. Students complete readings and guided creative projects. Please note: As of Fall 2023, Adobe Creative Cloud subscriptions are no longer offered for free through NOVA. Students need to purchase their own license for successful completion of the course work. A limited number of computers with access to Adobe will be available in designated computer labs.

Prerequisite is PHT 102 or instructor permission. Introduces fundamental studio lighting techniques using continuous and flash/strobe equipment. Gain experience solving a variety of lighting problems through class demos. Access to a digital camera with fully adjustable manual controls is required.
