- Presents duct materials including sheet metal, aluminum, and fiber glass. Explains development of duct systems, layout methods, safety hand tools, cutting and shaping machines, fasteners and fabrication practices. - Presents measuring and gauging of sheet metal, types of metal, handling sheet metal, cutting and bending, layout. Teaches fundamentals of drafting, basic drawing instruments, lettering practices.Lecture 1-2 hours. Laboratory 3-6 hours. Total 5-7 hours per week.

- Presents trouble-shooting and servicing the electrical components of small refrigeration systems including basic electricity for refrigeration, electrical controls of refrigeration systems, electrical motors, motor control, motor starters, relays, overloads, instruments, and control circuits.Lecture 1 hour. - Presents circuit diagrams for air conditioning units, reading and drawing of circuit diagrams, types of electrical controls. Includes analysis of air conditioning circuits, components, analysis and characteristics of circuits and controls, testing and servicing. Introduces electricity for air conditioning which includes circuit elements, direct current circuits and motors, single and three-phase circuits and motors, power distribution systems, and protective devices. Studies the electron and its behavior in passive and active circuits and components. Demonstrates electronic components and circuits as applied to air conditioning system. Part I of II.Lecture 2-3 hours. Laboratory 2-6 hours. Total 4-9 hours per week.

Includes analysis of air conditioning circuits, components, analysis and characteristics of circuits and controls, testing and servicing. Includes servicing and installation procedures for electrical unloading of compressors, single- and two-stage thermostats, and electrical regulation of fan speed for air volume control. Explains operational and safety control and how schematic and pictorial diagrams are used in these systems.Lecture 2-3 hours. Laboratory 3-6 hours. Total 4-9 hours per week.

- Studies electronics and its applications in the HVAC field. Covers computers, programmable controllers, and microprocessors in the HVAC industry.Lecture 1 hours. Laboratory 3 hours. Total 4 hours per week.

- Presents standard safety procedures used in the heating and cooling industry. Discusses proper handling of equipment refrigerants and electricity.Lecture 1 hour per week.

- Introduces fractions, decimals, sign of operations, equations, Ohm's Law, subtraction, multiplication and division of signed numbers. 3-4 credits - AIR 165 - Air Conditioning Systems I
- Introduces comfort survey, house construction, load calculations, types of distribution systems, and equipment selection. Introduces designing, layout, installing and adjusting of duct systems, job costs, and bidding of job. Part I of II.Lecture 2-3 hours. Laboratory 3-6 hours. Total 5-8 hours per week.
3-4 credits - AIR 167 - Air Conditioning Systems III
- Introduces building survey, commercial load calculations, design conditions, solar heat gain, ventilation, internal heat gains, cooling, heating and humidification with water psychometrics distribution systems, ice and water for air conditioning.Lecture 2-3 hours. Laboratory 3-6 hours. Total 5-8 hours per week.

- Introduces basic principles of refrigeration. Includes refrigeration systems, cycles, and use and care of refrigeration tools. Studies shop techniques including soldering, brazing, leak testing, tube testing, tube bending, flaring, and swaging. Analyzes mechanical (vapor compression) systems. Assembles and repairs them including evacuating, charring, testing, and electrical repairs. Introduces advanced troubleshooting and repairs for domestic, commercial and industrial units. Includes medium, low, and ultra low temperature systems of the single and multiple unit types. Includes equipment selection, system balancing, and installation procedures. Part I of II.Lecture 4-6 hours. Laboratory 6-9 hours. Total 10-15 hours per week.

6-7 credits - AIR 181 - Planning and Estimating I
- Presents fundamentals of blueprint reading as applied to the building trades. Emphasizes air conditioning distribution, designing and drawing residential and commercial systems, take-off of materials and estimating the cost of the systems. Part I of II.Lecture 1-2 hours. - Reviews principles of refrigeration and air conditioning. Studies components, types and applications. - Introduces electrical, pneumatic and electronic control circuits as applied to year-round air conditioning systems. - Studies air conditioning, sizing selection, and application, servicing, repairing of coils and compressors. Includes troubleshooting the cooling system. Includes valves, strainers and accessories, duct systems and air distribution design and their relationship with volume, static pressure and velocity. Part I of II.Lecture 2-3 hours. - Studies air conditioning, sizing selection, and application, servicing, repairing of coils and compressors. Includes troubleshooting the cooling system. - Presents air balancing including taking duct pressure readings, finding register and grille CFM's, fans, laws and their applications. Explores instruments used for air balancing and proper procedures. Studies water-cooled and air-cooled condensers, refrigerant piping design, capacity control, air washers, water and steam piping arrangements. Part II of II.Lecture 2-3 hours. Laboratory 2-3 hours. - Studies heat pumps, sizing, installation, and servicing, reciprocating screw and centrifugal chillers air conditioners.Lecture 2-3 hours. Laboratory 2-6 hours. Total 4-9 hours per week.
3-4 credits - AIR 276 - Refrigerant Usage EPA Certification
- Prepares HVAC technicians for a refrigerant certification test mandated by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Reviews refrigerant recovery, recycle, and reclamation procedures for service work associated with air conditioning and refrigeration. Examines environmental impact including ozone depletion resulting from refrigeration utilization.Lecture 1-2 hours. Total 1-2 hours per week.
