- Introduces shop practices for automotive laboratory and shop safety, identification and use of hand tools, general power equipment and maintenance of automotive shop. Explains basic operation procedures of standard shop equipment. Presents Occupational Safety and Health Act standards pertaining to the automotive field.Lecture 2-3 hours per week.
2-3 credits - AUT 101 - Introduction to Automotive Systems
- Introduces fundamental systems of automobile, the engine fuel, exhaust, electric, ignition, lubrication, cooling, transmission, steering, brake and suspension systems. Teaches theory and function of each system. Demonstrates operation.Lecture 2-3 hours. Laboratory 2-3 hours. Total 4-6 hours per week.
3-4 credits - AUT 111 - Automotive Engines I
- Presents analysis of power, cylinder condition, valves and bearings in the automotive engine to establish the present condition, repairs or adjustments. Part I of II.Lecture 2-3 hours. Laboratory 2-3 hours. Total 4-6 hours per week.

3-4 credits - AUT 113 - Cylinder Block Service I
- Studies basic cylinder block reconditioning, including boring, resleeving, line-boring and deck resurfacing. Includes repair techniques for damaged block and cylinder head castings to include cold welding, brazing, welding and epoxy.Lecture 2 hours. Laboratory 3 hours. Total 5 hours per week.
3 credits - AUT 114 - Cylinder Head Service II
- Studies cylinder head reconditioning, including valve seat grinding, refacing valves, servicing valve guides, valve seat inserts, cutting for valve seals and spring, thread repair and resurfacing mating surfaces.Lecture 2 hours. Laboratory 3 hours. Total 5 hours per week.
Prerequisite: AUT 113.3 credits - AUT 121 - Automotive Fuel Systems I
- Analyses major domestic and foreign automotive fuel systems to include carburetors and fuel injection systems. Includes detailed inspection and discussion of fuel tanks, connecting lines, instruments, filters, fuel pumps, superchargers, and turbo charger. Also includes complete diagnosis, troubleshooting, overhaul and factory adjustment procedures of all major carbureted and fuel injection systems. Part I of II.Lecture 3 hours. Laboratory 0-3 hours. Total 3-6 hours per week.

- Studies automobile ignition and fuel systems, their functions in operation of engine. Includes carburetors, fuel pumps, ignition systems, troubleshooting, engine test and adjustment, tune-up.Lecture 2-4 hours. Laboratory 3-9 hours. Total 7-11 hours per week.
5 credits - AUT 127 - Automotive Lubrication and Cooling Systems
- Analyzes lubrication systems to include lubricants, pumps, lines, filters, and vents. Also analyzes cooling systems, coolants, pumps, fans, lines and connections. Teaches estimating repairs, adjustments needed and their costs.Lecture 1-2 hours. Laboratory 3 hours. Total 4-5 hours per week.
2-3 credits - AUT 130 - Introduction to Auto Mechanics
- Introduces auto mechanics, covering auto shop safety, tool identification and use. Explains automobile system theory and function. Stresses quality work practices and job opportunities.Lecture 1-2 hours. Laboratory 3 hours. Total 4-5 hours per week.
2-3 credits - AUT 136 - Automotive Vehicle Inspection
- Presents information on methods for performing automotive vehicle safety inspection.Lecture 1 hour. Laboratory 2 hours. Total 3 hours per week.
2 credits - AUT 141 - Auto Power Trains I
- Presents operation, design, construction and repair of power train components, standard and automatic transmission. Includes clutches, propeller shaft, universal joints, rear axle assemblies, fluid couplings, torque converters as well as 2, 3, and 4 speed standard, overdrive and automatic transmissions. Part I of II.Lecture 2-3 hours. Laboratory 2-6 hours. Total 4-8 hours per week.

- Studies small gasoline engine operating principles, construction, design, variety, and their many purposes. Gives instruction on two-cycle and four-cycle small gas engines, their construction, design, fuel system, ignition system, and lubricating systems. Demonstrates disassembly, reconditioning, overhaul and reassembly in the lab.Lecture 1-2 hours. Laboratory 2-3 hours. Total 3-5 hours per week.
2-3 credits - AUT 165 - Auto Diagnosis and Tune-Up
- Presents the techniques for diagnosis of malfunctions in systems of the automobile. Uses dynamometers, oscilloscopes and other specialized diagnostic and testing equipment. Demonstrates tune-up of conventional and rotary engines.Lecture 1 hour. Laboratory 3 hours. Total 4 hours per week.
2 credits - AUT 166 - Automotive Diagnostics I
- Presents the application of operating theory and diagnostic procedures on general engine mechanical and electrical systems. Emphasizes diagnostic procedures using the latest diagnostic procedures using the latest diagnostic equipment. Part I of II.Lecture 4 hours. Laboratory 2 hours. Total 6 hours per week.

- Presents a study of high efficiency fuel systems and related emission control systems.Lecture 4 hours. Laboratory 3 hours. Total 7 hours per week.
5 credits - AUT 217 - Computerized Fuel Systems
- Introduces devices which sense the engine condition and control fuel mixture to produce economical fuel consumption. Teaches theory of operation, testing, adjustment and repair or replacement of these devices.Lecture 1-2 hours. Laboratory 3-6 hours. Total 5-7 hours per week.
3 credits - AUT 226 - Advanced ASM Emissions Diagnostics
- Presents logical diagnostic strategies to identify and correct vehicle HC, CO, and Nox emissions failures. Specifically addresses the technologies and techniques required for successful diagnosis and repair of vehicles failing Acceleration Simulation Mode (ASM) and Two-Speed Idle Mode Tests. Current ASM diagnostic equipment will be introduced, discussed, and usage demonstrated.Lecture 2 hours per week.
2 credits - AUT 233 - Hybrid Electric Vehicle Technology
- Presents technologies used in hybrid electrical vehicles (HEV), includes safety, theory, diagnosis, and component replacement. Covers automotive electronics; theory, operation and testing.Lecture 2-3 hours. Laboratory 2-3 hours. Total 4-6 hours per week.

- Studies separate and combined automotive heaters and air conditioning, including direct and vacuum operated controls, basic principles of refrigeration, adjustment, general servicing, and charging of air conditioning systems.Lecture 1-2 hours. Laboratory 2-3 hours. Total 3-5 hours per week.

- Introduces principles of refrigeration, air conditioning controls, and adjustment and general servicing of automotive air conditioning systems.Lecture 3 hours. Laboratory 3 hours. Total 6 hours per week.
4 credits - AUT 237 - Automotive Accessories
- Introduces the principles, design, construction, adjustment, and maintenance of all automotive equipment classed as an accessory which is not studied in other automotive courses.Lecture 1-3 hours. Laboratory 0-3 hours. Total 2-5 hours per week.

- Introduces electricity and magnetism, symbols and circuitry as applied to the alternators, regulators, starters, lighting systems, instruments and gauges and accessories. Part I of II.Lecture 2-3 hours. Laboratory 2-3 hours. Total 4-6 hours per week.

3-4 credits - AUT 251 - Automatic Transmissions
- Studies several types of automatic transmissions, torque converters, and their principles of operation. Includes adjustment, maintenance, and rebuilding.Lecture 2-3 hours. Laboratory 2-6 hours. Total 4-8 hours per week.
3-4 credits - AUT 255 - Advanced Automotive Engine Performance Diagnostics
- Introduces advanced engine performance concepts, including theory and practical application. Covers vehicle communications, scan-tool diagnostics, advanced engine mechanical tests, and diagnosing and repairing complex vehicle drivability issues. Provides preparation for the Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) A8 Engine Performance Certification examination.Lecture 2 hours. Laboratory 6 hours. Total 8 hours per week.

- Presents advanced theory of operation for small gasoline engines, combustion principles, construction, design, variety, and their many purposes. Explains two-cycle and four-cycle small gas engine operation, ignition systems, various construction principles, functional design and usage, fuel systems and lubricating systems. Provides hands-on instruction in disassembly, reconditioning, overhaul and reassembly procedures in the lab.Lecture 1 hour. Laboratory 2 hours. Total 3 hours per week.

- Presents operation, design, construction, repair, and servicing of braking system, including Anti-Lock Brake Systems (ABS). Explains uses of tools and test equipment, evaluation of test results, estimation of repair cost for power, standard and disc brakes.Lecture 2-3 hours. Laboratory 3 hours. Total 5-6 hours per week.
3-4 credits - AUT 266 - Auto Alignment, Suspension and Steering
- Introduces use of alignment equipment in diagnosing, adjusting, and repairing front and rear suspensions. Deals with repair and servicing of power and standard steering systems.Lecture 1-2 hours. Laboratory 6 hours. Total 7-8 hours per week.
3-4 credits - AUT 267 - Automotive Suspension and Braking Systems
- Presents the operation, design, construction, repair and servicing of braking and suspension systems. Explains use of tools and test equipment, evaluation of test results, estimation and repair cost, front and rear suspension alignment, power and standard steering, and power, standard and disc brakes.Lecture 2-3 hours. - Presents diagnostic and service procedures for automatic electrical and mechanical systems. Teaches use of tools and test equipment, evaluation of test results, estimation of repair cost.
