1-5 credits - DSL 111 - Introduction to Diesel Engine
- Studies the modern diesel engine, including its fuel, cooling, induction, and exhaust systems. Covers construction, fabrication, maintenance, tune-up, and minor repair and adjustment.Lecture 1 hour. Laboratory 2 hours. Total 3 hours per week.
2 credits - DSL 121 - Diesel Engines I
- Studies the basic principles involved in the construction and operation of diesel engines. Examines fuel, air, cooling, and control system of various designs. Emphasizes engine overhaul and repair, including gauging proper measuring instruments and tools for these tasks. Part I of II.Lecture 2-3 hours. Laboratory 6 hours. Total 8-9 hours per week.
5-6 credits - DSL 122 - Diesel Engines II
- Studies the basic principles involved in the construction and operation of diesel engines. Examines fuel, air, cooling, and control system of various designs. 5-6 credits - DSL 123 - Diesel Engine Systems I
- Studies basic operational theory of the two and four-stroke cycle diesel engine used in public transportation vehicles. Covers the construction and function of the diesel engine and the major components as they relate to air, exhaust, and fuel systems. Emphasizes diesel engine tune-up and troubleshooting theory. Part I of II.Lecture 2 hours per week.
2 credits - DSL 126 - Diesel Engine Reconditioning
- Provides basic knowledge of the construction, design, and application of selected modern diesel engines and their components. Covers induction and exhaust systems, cooling and lubricating systems, and fuel injection and governing systems. Provides opportunity to disassemble, inspect, recondition, reassemble, and test selected engines.Lecture 3 hours. Laboratory 6 hours. Total 9 hours per week.
6 credits - DSL 131 - Diesel Fuel Systems and Tune-Up
- Teaches maintenance, adjustment, testing, and general repair of the typical fuel injection components used on non- automotive diesel engines. Includes engine and fuel system tune-up procedures and troubleshooting using current diagnostic equipment.Lecture 2-3 hours. Laboratory 4-6 hours. Total 6-9 hours per week.
4-5 credits - DSL 141 - Transportation Electrical Systems I
- Studies basic operational theory of electrical systems used in public transportation vehicles. Covers electrical symbols, schematics, troubleshooting procedures, as well as the function, construction, and operation of the electrical system and its components. Part I of II.Lecture 2 hours per week.
2 credits - DSL 143 - Diesel Truck Electrical Systems
- Studies the theory and operation of various truck and tractor electrical systems. Covers preheating, starting, generating, and lighting systems. Uses modern test equipment for measurement, adjustment, and troubleshooting.Lecture 2 hours per week. Laboratory 4 hours. Total 6 hours per week.
4 credits - DSL 152 - Diesel Power Trains, Chassis, and Suspension
- Studies the chassis, suspension, steering and brake systems found on medium and heavy-duty diesel trucks. Covers construction features, operating principles and service procedures for such power train components as clutches, multi-speed transmissions, propeller shafts, and rear axles. Teaches operations of modern equipment to correct and adjust abnormalities.Lecture 2 hours. Laboratory 4 hours. Total 6 hours per week.
4 credits - DSL 155 - Heavy Duty Suspension and Service
- Examines suspensions used on heavy-duty trucks and teaches preventative maintenance and service procedures. Includes nomenclature, theory of operation and services, and repair of heavy-duty truck suspension systems including tires and wheels and steering gear and connecting linkage. Provides opportunity for preventative maintenance inspections and service procedures on heavy-duty vehicles.Lecture 2 hours. Laboratory 2 hours. Total 4 hours per week.
3 credits - DSL 160 - Air Brake Systems
- Studies the basic operational theory of pneumatic and air brake systems as used in heavy-duty and public transportation vehicles. Covers various air control valves, test system components, and advanced air system schematics. Teaches proper service and preventative maintenance of systems.Lecture 2 hours. Laboratory 2 hours. Total 4 hours per week.
3 credits - DSL 161 - Air Brake Systems I
- Studies the basic operational theory of pneumatic and air brake systems used in public transportation vehicles. Covers various air control valves, air and test system components, and advanced air system schematics. Part I of II.Lecture 2 hours per week.
2 credits - DSL 176 - Transportation Air Conditioning
- Studies fundamentals of transportation air conditioning. Includes repair, service, and troubleshooting of the refrigeration systems used in road vehicles and heavy equipment.Lecture 1 hour. Laboratory 2 hours. Total 3 hours per week.
2 credits - DSL 181 - Diesel Mechanics I
- Studies basic internal engines, including cylinder blocks, cylinder heads, crankshafts, and pistons. Studies fuel injection systems, fuel pumps, injectors and nozzles, preventive maintenance and troubleshooting. Part I of II.Lecture 4 hours. Laboratory 6 hours. Total 10 hours per week.
