Explores the development, progression, treatment and prevention of diabetes. Emphasizes healthy meal planning, physical activity, monitoring behaviors, medications, coping and communication strategies for Type II diabetes.

General Course Purpose

Diabetes is a chronic, debilitating disease that affects approximately 26 million Americans, or 8% of the population. Based on current trends, the Centers for Disease Control estimate that one in three Americans will have the disease by the year 2050 (CDC, 20 10).
