Introduces students to the traditional music and musicians, historical and contemporary, of the central Appalachian region. Explore influences of the music of various cultures, both within and outside the region, on the musical styles.
Lecture 3 hours. Total 3 hours per week.
3 credits

General Course Purpose

The purpose of this course is to provide an introductory overview of the settlement of the central Appalachian region and the styles of traditional music that evolved in the region. This course is an elective for the Career Studies Certificate in Old Time Music.
