- HIM 106 - International Classification of Diseases I
- Introduces International Classification of Diseases Clinical Modification Coding I (ICD-9-CM) coding classification system and provides actual coding exercises. NOT INTENDED FOR HIT MAJORS.Lecture 2 hours per week.
Prerequisite: HLT 143.2 credits - HIM 110 - Introduction to Human Pathology
- Introduces the basic concepts, terminology, etiology, and characteristics of pathological processes.Lecture 3 hours per week.
3 credits - HIM 141 - Fundamentals of Health Information Systems I
- Focuses on health data collection, storage, retrieval and reporting systems, with emphasis on the role of the computer in accomplishing these functions. Part I of II.Lecture 3 hours per week.
3 credits - HIM 196 - On-Site Training
- Specializes in career orientation and training program without pay in selected businesses and industry, supervised and coordinated by the college. Credit/work ratio not to exceed 1:5 hours. May be repeated for credit.Variable hours per week.
1-5 credits - HIM 226 - Legal Aspects of Health Record Documentation
- Presents the legal requirements associated with health record documentation. Emphasizes the policies and procedures concerning the protection of the confidentiality of patient's health records.Lecture 2 hours per week.
2 credits - HIM 250 - Health Data Classification Systems I
- Focuses on the current classification systems used in the healthcare industry. Introduces the professional standards for coding and reporting of inpatient/outpatient diagnostic codes as well as inpatient procedures. Utilizes standards in identifying and accurately assigning codes to diseases and procedures as they relate to statistical research and healthcare financing.Lecture 3-4 hours per week. Total 3-4 hours per week.
3-4 credits - HIM 254 - Advanced Coding and Reimbursement
- Focuses on the applications and evaluation of advanced coding skills through practical exercises using actual healthcare data; while examining the components of DRGs, APCs and APGs and other prospective payment in the healthcare environment. Utilizes current coding standards in identifying payment methodologies, revenue cycle management and reimbursement.Lecture 3-4 hours per week.
3-4 credits - HIM 255 - Health Data Classification Systems II: CPT
- Focuses on procedure classification using Current Procedural Terminology (CPT). This system is currently utilized for collecting health data for the purposes of statistical research and financial reporting.Lecture 2-3 hours. Total 2-3 hours per week.
2-3 credits - HIM 260 - Pharmacology for Health Information Technology
- Emphasizes general pharmacology for Health Information professionals; covers general principles of drug actions/reactions, major drug classes, specific agents within each class, and routine mathematical calculation needed to determine desired dosages.Lecture 2-3 hours per week.
