HLT 150 - Cross Cultural Health and Wellness Practices at Rappahannock Community College

Explores prevailing cultural values toward health and wellness and compares them with cultures around the world.Presents concepts related to communication, spirituality, family and gender roles, dietary restrictions, traditional practices, reaction to pain and end-of-life decisions.
Lecture 1-2 hours hours per week.
1-2 credits

General Course Purpose

To promote Tidewater Community College's mission, particularly the importance of cultural diversity in a pluralistic society. There is currently no course in the VCCS system that addresses the way that health and wellness is perceived and practiced globally. This course will introduce students to issues such as pregnancy and birth, traditional medicine practices, pain management, and end-of-life decisions and compare practices across cultures.
