NAS 2 - Foundations of Life Sciences
Presents elementary biological and chemical principles for allied health students whose high school preparation is deficient in the biological sciences.
Lecture 1-3 hours. Laboratory 0-3 hours. Total 1-6 hours per week.

NAS 125 - Meteorology
Presents a non-technical survey of fundamentals meteorology. Focuses on the effects of weather and climate on humans and their activities. Serves for endorsement or recertification of earth science teachers.
Lecture 3 hours per week. Recitation and laboratory 2 hours per week. Total 5 hours per week.

NAS 130 - Elements of Astronomy
Covers history of astronomy and its recent developments. Stresses the use of astronomical instruments and measuring techniques and includes the study and observation of the solar system, stars, and galaxies.
Lecture 3 hours per week. Recitation and laboratory 3 hours. Total 6 hours per week.

NAS 131 - Astronomy: Solar System
Introduces astronomy of the solar system, including the Sun, planets, their satellites, and other solar system objects. Includes discussions of the development of astronomy through the ages, recent discoveries, and experience with the types of mathematical exercises and observational skills essential for an understanding of the fundamental principles of solar system astronomy. Assignments require fluency in arithmetic, unit conversion, basic algebra, geometry, and trigonometry. This course is cross-listed with PHY 141. Credit will not be awarded for both.

NAS 150 - Human Biology
Surveys the structure and function of the human body. Applies principally to students who are not majoring in the health or science fields.
Lecture 3-4 hours per week.

NAS 160 - Field Ornithology
Students will study anatomy, physiology, reproduction, and taxonomy, with special attention to bird families and behavior through the use of preserved specimens, as well as live observation. Includes identifying birds in the wild through sight and songs/calls and explores the interrelationships between wildlife, plants, habitats and humans.
Lecture 2 hours. Laboratory 2 hours. Total 4 hours per week.

NAS 206 - Design and Application of Scientific Research
Explores advanced topics in scientific research. Exposes students to a variety of research approaches and scientific disciplines. Introduces research design, data collection and analysis of data. Provides students an opportunity to design their own experiments, including collecting and analyzing data as appropriate, drawing conclusions and determining the statistical reliability of those conclusions.
Credits 3 hours. Lecture 3 hours.
