ART 121 - Foundations of Drawing at Tidewater Community College

Course Description

Develops basic drawing skills and understanding of visual language through studio instruction/lecture. Introduces concepts such as line, proportion, space, perspective, value and composition as applied to still life, landscape and figure. Uses drawing media such as pencil, charcoal and ink wash. Includes field trips and gallery assignments as appropriate.
Lecture 1 hours. Studio Instruction 4 hours. Total 5 hours per week.

General Course Purpose

ART 121 provides lecture and studio instruction on the fundamentals, practices and related concepts of drawing from a variety of subject matter. No prior art training is necessary for Drawing I. The courses are a requirement for all ART curricula.
