CIV 174 - Geomatics at Tidewater Community College
Course Description

Teaches the art, science, and technologies used in the determination of position. Introduces basic plane surveying measurements and computations for horizontal, vertical and angular measurement, traversing, area, simple curves, topography, and construction surveys, and introduces Geographic Information Systems.
Lecture 3 hours per week. Total 3 hours per week.

General Course Purpose
The course will introduce students to surveying.
Course Objectives
- Identify and define the roles and responsibilities of surveying professionals, and the comprehensive theories and applications of surveying.
- Identify the basic applications of plane surveying procedures as related to measurement of horizontal distance, directions, angles, traversing, topographic surveys, horizontal curves, vertical curves and construction surveys.
- Apply appropriate methods of calculation for traverse adjustments and corrections, and area and volume determinations in accordance with prevailing and applicable professional standards.
- Describe the theories and applications of geographic information science and technology.
