Time of Day
Term
- NAS 2 - Foundations of Life Sciences
- Presents elementary biological and chemical principles for allied health students whose high school preparation is deficient in the biological sciences.Lecture 1-3 hours. Laboratory 0-3 hours. Total 1-6 hours per week.
1-4 credits - NAS 115 - Science in the Workplace
- Explores concepts of basic physical sciences as they apply to the workplace. Presents scientific methods, energy, heat, and temperature as related to various materials used in the workplace. Designed for trade workers that work with a variety of materials in many different applications. Assists workers with the physical properties of materials as they relate to various manufacturing methods.Lecture 3 hours per week.
3 credits - NAS 125 - Meteorology
- Presents a non-technical survey of fundamentals meteorology. Focuses on the effects of weather and climate on humans and their activities. Serves for endorsement or recertification of earth science teachers.Lecture 3 hours per week. Recitation and laboratory 2 hours per week. Total 5 hours per week.
4 credits - NAS 130 - Elements of Astronomy
- Covers history of astronomy and its recent developments. Stresses the use of astronomical instruments and measuring techniques and includes the study and observation of the solar system, stars, and galaxies.Lecture 3 hours per week. Recitation and laboratory 3 hours. Total 6 hours per week.
4 credits - NAS 131 - Astronomy: Solar System
- Introduces astronomy of the solar system, including the Sun, planets, their satellites, and other solar system objects. Includes discussions of the development of astronomy through the ages, recent discoveries, and experience with the types of mathematical exercises and observational skills essential for an understanding of the fundamental principles of solar system astronomy. Assignments require fluency in arithmetic, unit conversion, basic algebra, geometry, and trigonometry. This course is cross-listed with PHY 141. Credit will not be awarded for both.Lecture 3 hours. Laboratory 3 hours. Total 6 hours per week.
4 credits - NAS 132 - Astronomy: Stars and Galaxies
- Introduces astronomy of the stars, including the Sun, celestial objects, stellar formation and death and cosmology, and the study of the universe as a whole. Includes discussions of the development of astronomy through the ages, recent discoveries and experience with the types of mathematical principles employed and the astronomical observational skills essential for an understanding of the fundamental principles of astronomy and cosmology. Assignments require fluency in arithmetic, unit conversion, basic algebra, geometry, and trigonometry. This course is cross-listed with PHY 142. Credit will not be awarded for both.Lecture 3 hours. Laboratory 3 hours. Total 6 hours per week.
4 credits - NAS 177 - Upper Extremity Anatomy and Kinesiology
- Focuses on the upper extremity anatomy to include the entire shoulder girdle and the impact of pathology and injury related to the skeletal, nervous and muscular systems. Covers planes of movement of the upper extremity associated with basic physics and types of levers.Lecture 2 hour per week.
