MUS 136 - Applied Music-Voice at Virginia Highlands Community College

Course Description

Teaches singing, proper breath control, diction, and development of tone. Studies the standard vocal repertoire. Private lessons are available for either 1 or 2 hours of credit per semester. The length of the lessons will be 1/2 hour for 1 hour credit and 1 hour for 2 hours credit per semester. All courses in applied music may be repeated for a total of 8 hours for the major and 4 hours for the minor. One or two half-hour lessons per week. Four to eight hours practice required.
Laboratory 4-8 hours per week. Total 4-8 hours per week.

General Course Purpose

Students taking applied voice lessons will develop markedly improved vocal tone, a healthy vocal technique (including posture, breathing and vocalization), basic knowledge of vocal physiology and health, and an increasing repertoire of standard vocal literature appropriate for his/her voice and suitable for audition and public performance.
