Description: Foundations of Traffic Safety is the first of two courses required by the Virginia Department of Education teacher licensure to add an endorsement in driver education to the Virginia teaching license. Students are required to also complete the second course in order to become licensed. After successful completion of both courses, students will be required to pass a competency exam. In this course, students will develop a comprehensive understanding of the highway transportation system, the complexity of the driving task, factors contributing to the performance of highway users, and attitudes and skills necessary to develop competent drivers. It will also provide pre-service teachers with the essential knowledge and skills to effectively deliver the course content as presented in the Administrative and Curriculum Guide for Driver Education in Virginia and the VADETS Online Driver Education Course.
This class meets on June 1,2,4,5,8,9,11, and 12 from 4:00 to 9:00 pm.
This course will meet online via video conference at the scheduled time. Your instructor will send an email providing details for accessing your first online class session one week prior to the class. Contact Wil Preston at with any questions. Looking forward to seeing you in class!
