ELE 225 - Electrical Control Systems

Course Description

Studies components, equipment and circuits that are used to control the operation of electrical machines. Explains the physical and operating characteristics of various electromagnetic, static, and programmable control devices. Investigates control schemes used to accomplish specific control objectives.
Lecture 3 hours. Laboratory 3 hours. Total 6 hours per week.

General Course Purpose

Provides a comprehensive coverage of the control systems and components used in industrial electrical systems. The course begins with basics such as electrical quantities and circuits, tools, instruments, safety, electrical symbols, and line diagrams. Also taught are basic electrical theory, motor starters, solenoids, control devices, motor circuits, power distribution systems, programmable controllers, reduced voltage starting and variable frequency drives. Various configurations and options will be discussed and demonstrated during the course.
