HLT 232 - Healthy and Active Classrooms

Course Description

Analyzes teaching tools and learning styles to enable K-5 educators to instruct health concepts and integrate physical activity into the classroom. Emphasis is placed on developing and demonstrating engaging, grade-appropriate activities that meet school curricula standards and address current issues in health and activity. Strategies for promoting activity and healthful behaviors within the school and community are also discussed.
(3 Cr.) Lecture 3 hours. Total 3 hours per week.

General Course Purpose

The purpose of the course is to provide elementary school educators with the skills and resources needed to confidently and competently teach health content and lead physical activities in the classroom. The course provides an option for current elementary school teachers to earn 90 professional development points toward the 180 required points for license renewal every five years.
