INS 112 - Instrumentation Fundamentals

Presents the preparatory fundamentals of instrumentation including hydraulics, pneumatics, instrumentation loops, and temperature. Examines the basic principles of hydraulics, pneumatics, transducers, thermometers, gauges, and calibration.
Lecture 2 hours, Laboratory 2 hours, Total 4 hours per week.

General Course Purpose

Instrumentation Fundamentals is a course of study designed to acquaint the student with basic knowledge and understanding of the industrial instrumentation field. Theoretical concepts will be used to illustrate the principles of temperature, pressure, level and flow. The student will learn operation and calibration of instruments, as well as proper procedures and methods of installation, calibration, and troubleshooting techniques. Laboratory instruments and test equipment will be presented to support theoretical concepts. The student will be expected to write detailed lab reports in analytical format using third person. These reports will provide an indication of student's progress. Students will be expected to exhibit a competent level of technical composition.
