MAC 224 - Advanced Tooling Applications

Course Description

Provides students with the opportunity to demonstrate the techniques for selecting proper tool applications. Focuses on complex tool geometries and their effects on machining parameters in a precision environment. Examines production advantages of advanced tooling applications. Highlights 5-axis milling programming to maximize tool life and optimize performance.
Lecture 2 hours, Laboratory 3 hours, Total 5 hours per week.

General Course Purpose

This course will provide a complex understand of tooling selection and application with regard to tool geometries, tool coatings, and tool-path strategy. This course will provide the necessary knowledge to properly implement 5 axis machining techniques to maximize tool life and efficiency in production machining of complex components. Students will also gain an in-depth understanding of the effect of tool geometry on machining parameters.
