PBH 150 - Global Health

Course Description

Provides an introduction to current and emergent issues that affect the health of the general population, measures taken to address the disease burden, and indicators and/or tools used to assess population health.Examines agencies and organizations involved in international health, the impact of the environment and politics on health, and the relationship between health and human rights.
Lecture 3 hours per week, 3 credits.

General Course Purpose

This course is designed to provide an introduction to global health issues and their implications in the Public Health field. The course also introduces the student to the concept of disease burden and population assessment as well as the agencies and organizations worldwide responsible for monitoring and responding to health issues. This is a required course for the Career Studies Certificate in Public Health.
