PBS 130 - Introduction to Public Safety Communications

Course Description

Examines the fundamentals of public safety communications including equipment and operations of a public safety communications center in addition to record keeping, effective communication in emergency situations, use of emergency telecommunications equipment and standard telecommunication operating procedures.
Lecture 3 hours. Total 3 hours per week.
3 credits

General Course Purpose

This course familiarizes students to the operations of a public safety communications center and to specific tasks associated with the work of public safety communications such as record keeping, how to communicate clearly in emergency situations, using 9-1-1 system communications equipment and communicating with diverse populations.
