RPK 107 - Trail Maintenance and Design I

Course Description

Effective: 2013-05-01

Covers introductory concepts for a trail project including the approval process, the establishment of a trailhead, and the components of a sustainable trail. Features construction methods for small property in addition to hiking trails and biking trails. Examines strategies for maintenance of established trails.
3 Credits. Lecture 2 hours per week. Lab hours 2 hours per week. Total 4 hours per week.

General Course Purpose

To provide the student who wants to get involved either as a volunteer or to seek employment in trail building projects with a knowledge and understanding of the many steps that need to be taken from the beginning to the completion of a successful trail building project.
