SUR 135 - Infection Control

Course Description

Introduces the fundamentals of surgical microbiology. Includes an introduction to cell structure and theory, microbial function, human pathogen relationships, infectious process, blood borne and airborne pathogens, defense microorganisms, infection control, and microbial control and destruction.
(2 Cr.) Lecture 2 hours. Lab 0 hours. Total 2 hours per week.

General Course Purpose

The purpose of this course is to develop competency in surgical microbial infection control in the Central Sterilization environment. The main focus is having students understand how to protect the patient as well as themselves as the health care providers. The course introduces students to these topics without any lab experience.
