SUR 240 - Surgical Care II

Course Description

Builds on Surgical Care I by introducing anesthetics, wound healing, incisions, and suturing techniques. Presents principles of wound healing including types, stages, and complications. Provides foundational knowledge in the preparation and care of surgical supplies and equipment. Reviews responsibilities related to the surgical technologies in the scrub and circulating roles.
Lecture 3 hours. Total 3 hours per week.

General Course Purpose

Expands on the concepts of preparing the patient for surgery to include sterilization, scrub roles, and wound care and healing. Develops essential knowledge and expertise for working in the operating room environment.

Course Prerequisites/Corequisites

Prerequisites: SUR 140, SUR 145, BIO 142. Corequisite: SUR 245.
