BIO 150 - Microbiology for Health Science
Focuses on the general characteristics, cellular structure, and metabolism of microorganisms. Emphasizes microbial relationships with individual and community health. Includes impact of microbes on human health and disease, microbial pathogenicity, identifying and managing infectious diseases and controlling microbial growth, healthcare associated infections and epidemiology. Studies aseptic culturing techniques with hands-on experience in safe microbiology practices.
Lecture 3 hours. Recitation and laboratory 3 hours. Total 6 hours per week.
Prerequisite: BIO 101 or BIO 141

This class is 100% online. Students will be responsible for watching recorded lecture and lab videos, completing assignments, and taking exams. Students will be required to have a reliable high-speed internet connection and a computer or iPad with webcam. Students without a reliable internet connection or proper equipment may instead take exams at BRCCs testing center.
This course meets entirely online with no scheduled meeting times. Students may have to purchase physical and/or electronic books and/or other course materials. Students may be required to take at least one proctored assessment. Faculty will inform students of the proctored assessment requirements in the syllabus and class notes. Instructors may require a webcam and microphone for audio and video capabilities. Asynchronous classes may require a proctored exam from the Testing Center or another location. Students may be able to choose an optional remote proctoring service which requires a student fee.
This course is part of a project called Follett ACCESS. The cost for the course materials for this class is $90. The electronic course materials will be available to students in Canvas when the course begins. Students will be billed for tuition, fees, and required course materials.
